Frequent comingling between students who attend the magnet high school on campus and construction workers has been an on-going cause for concern among faculty, staff, and students.

One of the major causes for the commingling is the Royal Catering Truck that used to go into the construction site next to the high school and sell food to the construction workers. After entering the construction zone, the caterers would leave the gates open (despite the construction crew asking them to close it), and thus allowing faculty members and many high school and college students to enter the construction zone and purchase food.

"That's not our taco truck", said Mike Bishop of Pinnacle One, the company that is overseeing all construction projects on campus. "They just show up."

They are now restricted from entering the construction zone, and the workers are encouraged to bring in their own lunches.

The Royal Catering Truck is now relocated in the parking lot, near the football field, about 200 feet West of the entrance to the high school. They were given access to this area by Vice President of Administrative Services Ann Tomlinson.

"It's a short term agreement - a lease for that place," Tomlinson said.

But the problems still persisted. There is a lack of food services at Harbor, so construction workers and high school students follow the truck there.

Another cause of concern has been restrooms located in the college's Classroom Village, which is supposed to be off-limits to construction workers. The restrooms are used by the high school students, due to the fact that the high school does not have their own. Construction workers have been reported to be using them as well, even though they have their own facilities.

Construction workers have been instructed to completely avoid the Village bungalows by walking around them, Bishop said. He also said he plans to install security cameras around the Classroom Village restrooms.
