The building has been temporary home for the last two years to the Mathematics and Communications departments, as well as Work Experience and a maintenance shop.
It's removal has been made necessary by construction of the adjacent Technology Building going up several feet to the West. Construction on the new building is ahead of schedule, and will be hampered if Tech II, originally the campus motor pool, isn't razed soon, according to reports.
The area currently occupied by Tech II will serve as a front lawn for the new Tech Building.
Communications Division Chair Carmen Carrillo said in a memo to staff she believes the move will take place in the third week of January. Faculty and staff are expected to relocate temporarily into trailers in the former Parking Lot L.
Only full-time teachers will be assigned office space, she said. About 75% of the near four dozen instructions in the Communications Department are part-timers.
"We have truly limited space," Carrillo said.
"We can only take 10 cabinets, the copier, printer, and computers for the stations."
Carrillo said the Division has been told the Northeast Academic Building will not be ready in time for fall, 2008, as hoped.
