At the beginning of the summer, we saw gas prices climb to $5 a gallon in some parts of California. Food prices were also hitting record highs as well as everything else. Then, a miracle happened! Gas prices started coming down!
Right now, a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is going for $3.75 while 91 octane is just under the four dollar mark. Although the price to drive is now taking less of a toll on our wallets, it is still substantially higher than this time last years when the average price was $2.87 a gallon. Most experts agree that United States commuters will never see the $2.00 mark at the pump. This is due to a falling economy in recession and the cost of living. While the price of gas is still a bit lower, Seahawks are still putting in their two cents on the subject.
"It's such a bargain at $3.83 a gallon", jokes Carmelo Cuellar. Although Cuellar has a short distance to drive to school, there is nothing short about his drive to Universal Studios Hollywood where he works. "Right now it still barely worth it to drive to work!", Cuellar continues. Still, some are combining their driving with other ways to get around. For instance, Kenneth Amaya drives to school two days a week and rides his bike the other two days. "I save a little on gas and don't have to worry too much about parking." Explains Amaya.
While gasoline is becoming more affordable, the question is when will it stop going down and inevitably go up. Experts say it is hard to determine where this economy is going and how much we will pay for gas in the future. In the meantime, we have to take it one day at a time.
