John A. Torres, special agent in charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Los Angeles Field division sent a word of warning to all those planning to travel to Mexico during Spring break. Due to drug cartel violence and firearms sales in Rosarito Beach and Tijuana, traveler's should be aware. Traveler's are advised NOT to bring firearms to Mexico.
Through the initiative Project Gunrunner, there is increased enforcement activity and agents dedicated to stopping the trafficking of firearms into Mexico.
The ATF is actively working on a campaign called "Don't Lie For The Other Guy" with local firearms dealers.
This is a campaign designed to stop the sale of firearms that are purchased legally with the proper registered paperwork and then sold to someone else that is not the legal owner.
This warning follows a travel alert issued by the State Department advising traveler's to stay in well known tourist areas and to travel on main highways during daylight hours.
