The Los Angeles Lakers led by last years reigning MVP Kobe Bryant have been playing phenomenal basketball all season long as they look to add to their already 52 wins. With upset wins over the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day at the Staples Center snapping their 19 game winging streak and again in Boston, without star center Andrew Bynum who suffered a devastating knee injury days before but still managing to snap their 12 game win streak and not to mention the big win in Cleveland over LeBron James and the Cavaliers days later, snapping their 23-0 home record and home winning streak for the 2008-2009 season. Clearly stating they are the team to beat.
The Lakers swept both the Celtics and the Cavaliers this season, so if the Lakers and one of those two teams meet again in the NBA finals, the Lakers would have home court advantage. With a home record of 29-4 and a road record of 23-9, the Lakers have an overall record of 52-13 as of March 11th, the best in the NBA and are atop the Pacific and Western Conference standings and getting it done no matter where they are at. They have been an absolute force to be reckoned with by scoring a whooping league leading 109 points a game, according to ESPN. Com.
They have been playing like a championship caliber team all season and don't appear to be stopping anytime soon. The addition of Bynum when he comes back from his knee surgery at the end of this month or early April will be a big key for the Lakers as they will once again regain full health and will be one step closer to contending for the title. The Lakers, just not that long ago, pulled off trades by trading disgruntled forward Vladimir Radmanovic who was never real consistent with LA to the Charlotte Bobcats for forward Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown, just basically to add depth off the bench and give more minutes to players who contribute such as forwards like Luke Walton and Trevor Ariz and trading center Chris Mihm who never fully recovered from his ankle injury to the Memphis Grizzlies for a 2013 second rounder.
The Lakers have been on a bit of a struggle since coming back from their six game road trip in February in which they went 6-0. But in the long run the Lakers always tend to surprise their fans. The Lakers currently have 14 NBA Championships and 9 of those have been won in LA and the Lakers are looking to at some more to their history. So could we see a Lakers parade in June? Let's hope so!
