Athletic Director and former Los Angeles Harbor College football coach George Swade has been named coach once again, according to current athletic director Nabeel Barakat.

He replaces Andrew Alvillar, who resigned in the wake of the college's budgetary crisis.
He now coaches defensive backs at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Barakat said the athletic department had a severe need to cut costs and Swade fit the bill. It is believed that LAHC has a $4 million deficit.

"We needed to save some money and we had an athletic director who was interested in being our football coach," Barakat said.

Alvillar coached the Harbor football team for five years.

This is believed to be Swade's third stint with the team.

Swade has served as a physical education and health instructor, as well, as athletic director - a role he will continue.

Barakat pulled no punches when he spoke of the task that faces Swade. Harbor finished 3-7 and 5-5 in its last two seasons.

"When you have a different coach, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's hard," Barakat said. "If you have quality players you'll be ahead of the game."
