Does the hunger of football team drive it to victory?

Pregame meal consisted of peanut butter sandwiches

Last year, the football team suffered through a very rough season, finishing 3-7 for the year. The pregame meal for the team was peanut butter sandwiches.

Harbor College is a member of the Mountain Conference, which consists of the following schools: Southwestern, San Diego Mesa, Victor Valley, Mt. San Jacinto, Golden West, San Bernardino Valley and Compton colleges.

Here is a breakdown for the rest of the Mountain Conference:

At Victor Valley College, Amy Walken is the lead trainer.

"If they had a game at 1 a.m. they would get breakfast from Carl's Jr. "either a breakfast burrito or sandwich and hash browns," she said. "If they played after, they would get pregame cheeseburgers and fries, and at the postgame, sub sandwiches from Subway for home and away games."

At Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Terry Davis, Dean of Athletics said "that on away games they eat at Hometown Buffet."

At Pasadena City College, Jan Stubi, athletic secretary, said "Pasadena gives $8 to all their players on all away games. Depending on the distance and what time they left (they) could receive an additional $7 for both breakfast and lunch, not to exceed $15 per player."

At Golden West College, Barbara Sablon, athletic director secretary, said "each player receives $5 per player for all games."

At Mt. San Jancinto College, Cindy Eccard, the athletic secretary said "they give their players $6 for all games and when they go to the playoffs or bowl games they receive an extra $5 stipend for pregame meals and $6 for postgame meals."

At Compton College, Shaun Fernandez, who is the new head coach, said his ballplayers "receive $7-$10 for all games."

A spokesman at San Diego Mesa College that players have a food bar before games.

At San Bernardino Valley, players receive $8 for every home game, as well as a post-game meal of either pizza or sub sandwiches.
