On September 2, a prospective nursing student found the kittens and brought them in the nursing building. Noticing that the nursing employee had a stuffed animal of a cat sleeping in a basket near her desk, the student realized she found a foster Mom for the kittens. The kittens are about 4 weeks old.
They will be available for adoption in about 5 weeks.
One kitten is grayish-black. The other three kittens are black. One is all black, one has an amber spot on the head and the other has a white nose and four white paws. For more information please contact the Nursing department directly.
The foster Mom will spay or neuter the kittens and provide their first round of shots. There is one condition to agree to if you decide to adopt one. She asks that if you do not want or can not handle the responsibility of raising the kitten to please return it to her and not send it to a shelter.
It seems that the campus has been a drop off spot for stray animals in the past. Which shows the growing need to spay and neuter pets. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control there were 40,174 dogs impounded in the fiscal year 2004-2005. This is more than any other animal care and control agency in the nation. 18,804 dogs were euthanized that year, despite a no-kill policy.
There is low cost spay and neutering available at local shelters and vouchers for low-income or senior citizens. For owners of Pit Bulls and Rottweilers, Actors and Others for Animals offers free spay and neutering services.
