"The skunk was spraying up in the direction toward the second floor," said Tomlinson. "It was hiding underneath the stairwell." The spray traveled to the second floor in a matter of seconds.

After getting the mess cleaned, custodians then put up four fans to try and air out the smell, with the building door (where the spraying occurred) open, Tomlinson then sent out a memo to all faculty staff for them to open all their windows in their classrooms to try and help the air out process.

One custodian said the smell could there for a few days.

The odor wafted across the campus. Administration, the Library, and the Learning Resource Center are just a few places close by that could smell the odor.

"I have no idea on how it got in. My guess is a door was left open," said Tomlinson. "Students cannot leave food inside the classrooms because it will attract something, and I know the skunk did not come inside to get an education."

The campus has had its share of run-ins with skunks.

"When we had the old Liberal Arts building, we had a few run-ins with animals over there. They would travel under the classrooms in a tunnel," Carrillo said. "The skunks often would be in the furnace also. One time a skunk did come in my classroom. Students and I said to stay calm and it will go away on its own. Sure enough it did. We all didn't want it to spray in the classroom."
