Los Angeles Harbor College held its second depression screening at the Seahawk Center on October 8th .

Students who volunteered were asked to fill out a form and then privately met with a life skills councilor.

Tents were set up to maintain the confidentiality of the student during the meeting. The councilor asked the students questions based on the form they submitted and then were able to determine if the student needed further help or a referral to receive medication.

The screening was believed to be most beneficial at this time because early in the semester students are most stressed with classes starting up, financial due dates gaining, and attempting to balance work and school.

Not to mention to number of students who lost work and are now returning to school to further their education and solidify a career.

Students were given free pizza as an incentive to participate in the screening.

The event was organized by Dr. Bonnie Bernstein, who's in charge of the Life Skills program and is also a licensed psychologist. Dr. Bonnie, who she's better known as, organizes a variety of events and activities annually such as workshops as well as the depression screening.
