Los Angeles Harbor College plays at Cal State Fullerton in the American Bowl Saturday against Fullerton College. The American Bowl is the first round of the playoffs, leading up to the state championship.

Game time is 1 p.m.

Harbor (9-1) is seeded seventh in Southern California. Fullerton (9-1) is the No. 2 seed. The Hornets are riding a six-game winning streak. Harbor fell to San Bernardino Valley College, 29-21, in last week's regular season finale, snapping its nine-game winning streak.

"They came to play and we didn't, it is as simple as that," said Harbor coach George Swade. "They wanted it more than us."

Despite the loss, Harbor has had a stellar historic season. The past two years the Seahawks have been 3-7 and 5-5 and did not qualify for the playoffs.

No one expected Harbor to be 9-0, only remaining undefeated team in the state, playing in hopes of keeping its undefeated season alive.

"We never thought that we would end up being 9-1 when the season started," defensive lineman Joshua Aevanu said.

Fullerton and the Seahawks had three common opponents - all victories. Fullerton's only loss was 26-13 to College of the Canyons Sept. 26.

Poor tackling and crucial penalties do not go good together. That was the scene at San Bernardino for the Seahawks. Both teams fought neck-and-neck.

On the first offensive play of the game, SBVC's Kristen James ran the ball 20 yards down the sideline and was eventually pushed out of bounds. A late penalty for unnecessary roughness was called when James momentum made him fall over bench. That put the ball at the Seahawk 23-yard line. Four Plays later, the Seahawks were trailing, 7-0. From how the game got started off to, you could tell it was going to be a long night for the Seahawks.

"They tried to take us out of our rhythm and it worked, said Dwayne Frampton. "We were looking too much and worrying about 10-0 and we underestimated them. If we did things the way we normally do, it would have been a different story."

Playing down in the first quarter for the first time since playing Citrus College in week two, the Seahawks offense took charge looking to knot the game up.
