The Academic Affairs Committee met, March 3, to discuss the College Planning and Procedures Manual and Putting Students First, and Student Learning Outcomes, however it quickly turned into a heated debate between two Los Angeles Harbor College Students.

Prior to the AAC Meeting, Esteban Robledo, a student representative for LAHC, had attended the Associated Student Officers meeting, where he was escorted out for tape recording. The ASO president, Steven Delgado, had Robledo escorted out.

Robledo entered the AAC meeting promptly after the ASO meeting, looking for faculty support. Delgado followed in shortly after. The next 40 minutes were spent arguing over the rights of students to tape record publicly held meeting and how the ASO should be spending its funds. As they are student donations, Robledo held fast to the idea that students have the right to know where the money is being spent. During the argument one faculty member mentioned she had heard the LAHC newspaper, the Harbor Tides, wouldn't be able to print its upcoming issue due to lack of money. Delgado, as well as the few other students who were present, all agreed that the ASO should contribute some of its money to the Harbor Tides paper. Robledo had no comment and quickly left.

The meeting was adjourned with no real compromise, as the faculty has no say in how the ASO spends its donations.

Oh no, no, no. I did not have him escorted out. Our ASO adviser had him escorted out of the meeting. With all due respect, I advise you to get the facts straight. (Continued…)

The meeting in which the gentleman who was escorted out of was an ASO Meet and Greet. It was not a regular ASO Student Senate Meeting. Student Senate meetings are Brown Act meetings. (Continued…)

If your meet and greet had enough members of the ASO present then, an argument can be made that you had quorum and the brown act does apply. Not to mention that you discussed appropriations. (Continued…)

Well, you may have a point if the students present were in fact ASO Senators, however they were not. The purpose of the Meet and Greet was to invite all students interested in becoming Senators. (Continued…)
